If you like to head West, I have a new listing in Eastern Montana near Glendive;
160 acres for just $110,000. Actually, the rest of the section might be for sale as well. The owner of the 160 acres also owns the other 480 acres of the section. He loves it out there in the wide-open prairie and would like to retire there eventually; but if it makes the sale, he would part with it also. He drilled a well in the middle of the section, which pumps ten gallons per minute. Electric is about half a mile to the SE of the property. He has the productive ground rented out to a neighbor who pays him $1,600 a year to grow hay and wheat on the property. Deer and antelope are plenty in the area and if you like to fish, you are just a few miles from the Yellowstone River in Glendive.
Glendive is tucked between the badlands and the Yellowstone River, and is considered the hub city of the rich inland agricultural area of eastern Montana and western North Dakota. Large grain farms and ranches abound. Glendive's main street is one-sided with a massive railroad yard and roundhouse on the other side. Makoshika State Park, one of the most impressive badlands areas in America, borders the southern edge of Glendive. It is not only attractive with its highly unusual rock formations, but is a virtual warehouse of prehistoric fossils, mineral specimen and dinosaur bones.
The Frontier Gateway Museum will take you a giant step back in time with fossils, Indian artifacts, farm machinery and blacksmith tools. One of the most popular exhibits is 'Merrill West,' which is a walkway through a replica of the businesses which lined Glendive's business district in the late 1800s. A restored sheep wagon, a rural schoolhouse, a log cabin, a windmill pump, a smithy shop and a restored 1916 fire truck are displayed.
Historic Bell Street Bridge is one of the longest bridges in Montana. I was built in 1894, got destroyed by an ice jam in 1899 and was rebuilt around 1926. It has been preserved for its engineering accomplishment and significant role in the commercial development of the area. An annual September celebration commemorates the local landmark. Work is in progress to return it to its original glory. New glowing street lamps guide visitors along its path, now a pedestrian walkway. You can also take a self-guided walking tour of Glendive's Downtown Historic District, which will lead you past many buildings listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Guide brochures are available at the
Glendive Chamber of Commerce .
The 11,531-acre Makoshika State Park is three miles southeast of Glendive. Wind and water have created picturesque caprocks, pinnacles, hogback ridges and fluted hillsides. The park also preserves the fossil remains of Tyrannosaurus and Triceratops dinosaurs. The visitor center southeast of town displays more fossils, including a Triceratops skull. The park offers scenic drives, nature trails, picnic sites, an archery range and campground. Here you can find Montana's moss agates in the creek bottoms, gravel beds, and along the banks of the Yellowstone River running through Glendive. The area is renowned worldwide for the quality and abundance of the plume and moss agates found on its shores. The Best Western Jordan Inn has a fine display of exquisite agates. The Chamber of Commerce also has a display and the names of several local agate dealers and retailers. Guided rock hound boat tours are available!
If 160 acres is not big enough, I still have the
316 acres listed near Fort Benton, there you have barns and the alternative energy is already set up and working, fencing, corrals and good water for $375,000
But, you say, where are the trees and mountains? Coming from the East, they start right here in Red Lodge, with the highest peak soaring to the highest elevation in all of Montana and the tenth highest point in the nation: Granite Peak at an elevation of 12,807 feet above sea level. Here we are adjacent to the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness a few miles north of the Wyoming border. If you like to hike the wilderness right off your property, I just listed
100 acres with direct access for just $380,000
There is also a smaller 42 acres parcel available closer to electric for $325,000 with nice Aspen stands. Actually these 42 acres could be bought in 21acres chunks for $175,000 and $195,000. Come on out, I will show it to you.
Granite Peak's first ascent was made by Elers Koch on August 29, 1923 after several failed attempts by others. It was the last of the state highpoints to be climbed. Today, climbers typically spend two or three days ascending the peak, stopping over on the Froze-to-Death Plateau, although some climbers choose to ascend the peak in a single day.
Are you looking just for a few acres with nice trees, view of the mountains and close to town with all utilities installed? Well, we can do that too. Here are
four and a half acres between Red Lodge and the ski mountain for $180,000
Still too much hassle? Just want to bring your tooth brush and move into a
cabin by the creek? Here is a log home, the original part was built in 1927, but additions were made and it was recently updated and expanded to accommodate year round residents for $537,000
Or, is a nice clean roof over your head enough for your taste as long as you have a
creek and wild life in your back yard? Here is a manufactured home on Rock Creek on half an acre for just $220,000 with owner financing.
The other
half acre next door to it is also for sale with owner financing for $75,000
How about a
European style conventional home on half an acre looking down the length of the Golf Course in Red Lodge? $450,000
